Canadian Undergraduate Survey Consortium/Consortium canadien de recherche sur les étudiants universitaires Releases 2026 Survey Reports on the Middle-Years University Student Experience
WINNIPEG, MB — The Canadian Undergraduate Survey Consortium (CUSC-CCREU) has officially released its 2026 Survey of Middle-Years Students, capturing the distinct perspectives of undergraduate students who have transitioned past their first year but are not yet ready to graduate. A national results webinar on August 18 at 12 noon Eastern time will be led by Nicholas Borodenko from Prairie Research Associates (PRA). Register in advance for this webinar.
Administered across participating Canadian universities in early 2026, the master report synthesizes data from over 8,000 of middle-year undergraduates. This critical “middle cohort” provides institutions with an ideal window to analyze student satisfaction, retention indicators, long-term educational outcomes, and evolving academic and personal needs.
Key Findings from the 2026 Middle-Years Report:
- Academic Development: Self-reported academic growth, shift in career expectations, and goals since their first year of study.
- Evolving Campus Use: Data highlighting mid-degree reliance on electronic library resources, campus wellness, and student support systems.
- Mental Health Trends: Continued monitoring of student wellness profiles, with historical data tracking changes within the mid-degree student block.
“The middle years represent a critical juncture in the academic journey,” said Wayne Sun, President of CUSC-CCREU. “By focusing on students who are neither navigating the initial transition of first year nor preparing for an immediate exit into the workforce, this year’s data gives universities targeted, actionable insights to design support structures that prevent mid-degree burnout and foster completion.”
